Evan Gilyard II is a dynamic, playmaking guard whose speed, scoring touch, and leadership have made him a cornerstone of the Calgary Surge backcourt. The Chicago native returns to Calgary following an electrifying 2025 campaign in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, where he averaged over 20 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game across 16 appearances. Known for his ability to control tempo and deliver in clutch moments, Gilyard II etched his name into franchise history with a 37-point performance at the Scotiabank Saddledome during SURGE 2 STAMPEDE—setting a new regular season scoring record and showcasing his big-game mentality.
Standing at 5’10”, Gilyard II combines quickness and creativity to consistently break down defenses while maintaining efficiency from both the field and beyond the arc. His winning pedigree was further solidified following the CEBL season, as he captured the 2025 NBA G League Championship with the Greensboro Swarm. A well-traveled professional, he has also suited up for the Memphis Hustle and Raptors 905, highlighted by a 34-point outing against the Windy City Bulls.
Before turning pro, Gilyard II built an accomplished collegiate career across UTEP, New Mexico State, and UMKC, earning First-Team All-Summit League honours. Beyond his on-court impact, he has also been recognized for his contributions off the floor, receiving the NBA G League Community Assist Award for his commitment to community service.
