THE CALGARY SURGE ADD TWO MORE PLAYERS TO THEIR 2023 INAUGURAL ROSTER.

Jul 05, 2023

CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Surge have signed six-foot-ten centre Jordy Tshimanga from Montréal, Québec and six-foot-four guard, Terry Henderson Jr. from Raleigh, North Carolina for their 2023 inaugural season, the team announced Wednesday.

Tshimanga most recently played with the Iowa Wolves of the NBA G-League alongside teammate, Simi Shittu. During the 2022-23 season with the Wolves, he averaged 8.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 23.2 minutes in 24 games played. He also had season-bests of 18 points and 19 rebounds.

“We are pleased to have Jordy join us as we prepare for an important stretch of the season. His size and physicality will help us tremendously, especially against teams that have size up front. He is very skilled offensively and will provide some scoring at the 5. He compliments our current frontcourt players well and has played with most of our roster in the past,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James.

The Montréal, Québec native is no stranger to the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) as he played with the Saskatchewan Rattlers during the 2022 season where he averaged 8.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 22.1 minutes in 22 games played.

“Lots of familiar faces here! The welcome was warm, and the energy felt pure. Looking forward to complimenting this team, in all the ways I can so we can continue to win more games,” said Tshimanga.

Henderson Jr. most recently played professionally for the ASD Latina Basket in Italian Serie A2 where he averaged 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 31.7 minutes in 29 games. During that season, he started in 27 games and led the team in points, steals, and minutes played.

“Terry Henderson Jr’s best skill is shooting the ball. He is a proven shooter at every level he has played at. Our team needed to get better in this area, and I believe Terry fills this void. Terry is also a dynamic defender that can guard multiple positions. He is ultra-competitive and adds more toughness to our group of players,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James.

He also spent some time with the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G-League in 2020 where he averaged 8.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 28.1 minutes in 10 games.

“I am thankful for the opportunity. I was welcomed with open arms by a great group of guys. I am very excited to put on a show for the city of Calgary and get my first game under my belt,” said Henderson.

About the Calgary Surge

The Calgary franchise originated as the Guelph Nighthawks in 2018, one of the six founding members of the CEBL. The organization was relocated from the league’s smallest market to Calgary in August 2022 as part of the growing league's business strategy to have teams in Canada’s largest metropolitan areas. Chairman Usman Tahir Jutt and Vice-Chairman and President Jason Ribeiro saw an opportunity to bridge Calgary’s diverse communities together through sport and entertainment and to create a sense of belonging.
